Day Six Sept. 1st, 2010

Mom informed me that is was Library Card Day at the fair and I could get in for $6.00.   So I grabbed my card and went to join Mom at the fair for talent shows and the Trampling of Turtles, but as I got to the fair, I learned that is is only $6.00 for senior citizens! I saved a ticket anyway and paid my nine bucks and joined up with Mom.  I had already texted my friend Mary to tell her about the great entrance deal and she was hungry so I convinced her to come to the fair and she made me promise to take her to find turkey sandwiches! Mom had forgotten her regular (not sun) glasses and the sun was setting, so I ran back to their house to meet Mary, get her a parking spot and get the glasses! ( failed to tell Mary it was not $6.00, but she quickly forgave me with turkey on the brain)

Mom was waiting with failing vision as the skies grew darker so Mary and I needed to get food and fast!  Walking at racing speed, we made it all the way down just north of the Coliseum to find the very tastiest, juiciest, turkey sandwiches I have ever had!  I am not a fan of turkey, but since Christie said we must....we did!   and it was as good as she said!  (quite salty though).  Mary got a yummy lemonade to wash it down.

We then hiked over to the horse barns to find those new favorites, deep fried mashed taters!  Mary bought a stick but there was a long line, waiting for them to get frying, and caught up with orders.  Not quite sure why the back-up???  Some people had been waiting for quite some time so I told Mary to scoot up the hill and get her cream cheese deep fried pickles ( back to that pickle place!  LOL) and she said she'd wait for me there.  I got lucky and was served my order before many others.  Since I was pressed for time I did the "Minnesota Nice" thing and took 'em and ran!  I jogged up to Mary with piping hot taters and she was enjoying her melty, crunchy, pickles.  I am not a fan of pickles, so I did not indulge when offered, but Mary certainly agreed that the taters were something special.

With full stomachs and a stitch in our sides from eating and running, we hiked up to find Mom sitting at the Baldwin park stage, looking like a blind lady on a bench in back!  Phew, we got her her glasses just in time!

Had to be some of the worst talent yet, tonight.  (sorry if you were one of them!) There were two little girls who sang a duet who were amazing, and guy who did a tap dance or clogging routine (wasn't really sure) that I liked.  We all agreed that the outfits of choice for most all of the performers left much to be desired!  Not sure who won since we didn't stick around to see the end!  Mary, Mom and I were like Sharon, Hasselhoff and the British guy, ready with our "X" buzzers!

Mary and I sneaked in to see a bit of the 4H Arts In performance.  Learned that Mary used to a 4Her as a kid!  Check that off the list...seeing the show, not being a 4Her!

Mom was a bit cold ( the temp dropped rapidly tonight) and tired so she went home to bed.

Mary and I made our way down the the Leinie Lodge and cruised through the Home Improvement building and the remaining portions of the Merchandise Mart.  I might have to return with Stella to check out the new nail art people there!

We made it down to see Trampled by Turtles, and we had to be very careful for random, spontaneous, bouncing people who were in the outskirts of the crowd listening to the band.  One almost knocked me over!.  We decided it was dangerous to hang around so we went in search of a beer and, funny, ended up at the Ball Park Cafe.

With beers in hand we started down to see all the lights of Broadway..oops I mean Midway and who do we run into but Martha and Liz and a friend whose name I cannot spell here, sorry  We chatted for a bit and shared funny stories and then parted ways.  I warned them about the random, bouncing, people as they were making their way up to the Turtles!  I wanted to catch a news show and BE ON TV, so Mary suggested Kare11, but the barn was closed up, maybe no live fair broadcast tonight.

I then showed Mary the Beaver sculpture in the DNR on our way over to adventure park and were pleasantly amused by the kids and young adults in the hamster balls.  I spotted Channel 5 Eyewitness News and Dave Dahl being my fave weather guy these days, I convinced Mary to take a seat with me and wait it out!

Sadly there are no fun food or prize giveaways for the late crowds.  All I got was time to text family and friends and tell the to TiVo Mary and me!  There was a kid in front of us with a HUGE prize dog, so that made the camera shots more than we did, but there was a couple cameos of us.  We were not near the pretty people and cute kids on the other bleachers where all the news guys decided to sit. ( figures!)

After the news we realized we had been sitting on very short bleachers for over an hour and Mary wanted me to advise any others who may decide to sit for the Channel 5 News, to SIT IN THE FRONT ROW!   We were both almost crippled from keeping our ankles and knees at such odd angles, it would have been better to be able to stick your feet out!

The grandstand show (Weird Al) , let out early, so the fireworks went off during the news.  Mary and I missed them :( and we stopped briefly in our hobble home to see if there would be a corn dance, but I think we missed that too.

Rain is forecast for tomorrow, but, "the cousins are coming, the cousins are coming!"  So maybe will have to get out there for a little while in the late afternoon if they can make it that long!

Day Six Stats:
Walking, once again forgot the pedometer (went quite a ways though!)
Food Consumed:  Turkey Sandwich (shared), Mashed potatoes on a stick (shared), Fried cream cheese pickles (Mary), beers and lemonade.
Baby Cow Report:  was informed I may have just missed one as we came to the fair. :(  I might have to spend all afternoon Saturday just sitting there!
Things left to see: Fine Art, Purina Pet Center and a baby cow.

I can't believe I have almost seen it all, but there are only five days left!

Pictures will post later tomorrow, I am too tired to upload tonight! The Blog must be on Pacific Coast time, my clock says it is 12:25....AM!
