I typically do not consume deep fried foods at the fair, as you all know, but I dared to try a few tonight, knowing that the grease was new and they were not trying to make 40K per minute, so they should be thoroughly cooked!
Our table happened to be right next to Sweet Martha's Cookies. All I can say there is... "WHOOPS!....too many cookies."
We were also very close to Poncho Dogs!
Ran into Danny & Deb Runyon and they are offering a new Chipotle Chicken Salad Fajita this year and it was really good!! Deb described is thusly; diced chicken, diced apples, walnuts and craisins on a bed of shredded lettuce with chipotle sour cream and a touch of honey, wrapped in a tortilla. It was cold, crunchy and delish!
We ate a Porketta Pig Wing from Mancini's that was a seasoned pork shank bite that you eat like a chicken wing right off the bone. And I grabbed some cheese curds (daring soul that I am)and some deep fried green beans from Shanghaied Henri's.
Dino's offered a build your own gyro, and Dad got a Peter's hot dog to kick off the night!
Pitchfork Sausage is new concession this year and they must have been good, cuz this is what we found!
Got myself a Chicago dog, but seriously, who could eat more hot dogs, when there were cookies to be eaten??!? I could not finish the poncho, or the Chicago dog. Too bad Randy was not with us! He could have done it :)
Minneapple pie was there offering the apple or pumpkin pie ala mode. I tried the apple pie and I must admit, I prefer the Rutana's hot apple dumpling. But in all fairness, I did not try the pumpkin pie. I might have exploded....but there was room for more cookies.
We tried our luck at games of skill and chance. We did better at the games of chance!
No winners here.....
But Chance!.....
We won some stuff!
We ran into lots of old and some new friends!
Danny & Dino!
Another Danny , co owner of the Ball Park Cafe, creator of Donut Beer to be debuted at the fair this season! With State Fair board member Clarice Schmidt.
Dave, co owner of the Ball Park Cafe...looking good on day T minus 6. I will get a pic of him on day one and day twelve too! This smile will be on his face all twelve days!!!!
Mom really wanted a huge corn, but they were running out of prizes and we ran out of tickets and time. But Ann & Tom were so gracious they gave Señor Poncho to her :).
The line for the photo booth was long all evening, until the very end, when Mom & I snuck in before they closed up shop. We figured out how it worked on the third frame !
It was a great night and makes me even more excited for the fair to start! Bring it on!
