Nancy & I are lifelong friends; kindergarten to college roommates and beyond. It was wonderful to catch up over brunch and I am excited for her to move back "home" to St. Paul!
We found a great way for Stella to get to work. With her State Fair ID badge she can ride any bus free. I can drop her off at the local Park & Ride and the shuttle bus takes her right to her gate. At this point, less walking is better for my hard working kid!
I headed straight up to the Forest to start my shift. I have become the afternoon photo booth staff! Not many people enjoy doing it, we are short staffed at that time of day and I love it! The time goes by and I can "people watch" from my vantage point!
These people stopped in to say "Hi" on their way into the fair! They took advantage of some of the activities and then started off on their adventure!
As I was working I saw this group of adorable kids dancing in the field where the Coke Booth had been. I thought maybe it was part of the "Art's a Fair" program, where different artists pop up in different areas of the fair offering an art installation of some sort. (drama, dance, puppets etc.) It turns out they were rehearsing for the County Talent show and the little girl in red and her family lived next door to Mom & Dad, and Dad works at Boston Scientific! (My place of employment)
This is rehearsal:
After my shift, I wanted to check in on Stella so I walked down toward the West End when I got a call from her and she told me all was well and the people that caused her trouble the day before had been moved to a different gate. She did not need dinner and was all set, so I went to find my own food. My friend Estella told me that El Sol had good food, so I stopped at the south west corner of the food building and realized I had a coupon for a burrito. It was ~huge~! I did not want to eat until i had a place to sit so I checked in with Mom, who was watching talent show @ Leinie Lodge and headed her way. By the time I got close, she was already on her way up to Baldwin fo the county show. I stopped at O'Gara's to try and buy a beer and the system there is a mess. If I wasn't so thirsty for a cold beer, I would have walked away. After trying three lines, and waiting about ten minutes, I got one and tried to catch up with Mom. She had already found a bench, so we sat and I ate. I was quite hungry and thirsty so I broke my own rule, and I ate my food before I got a picture! Just know it was really big and stuffed full of beef, beans, lettuce and cheese. Yum!
We watched the talent show, but I was too tried to do more than head home with Mom. She had the TV on in the other room and I sat trying to blog in the kitchen and I caught sight of Ian Leonard from channel 9 news. Of course the ONE night I am not at the Ball Park, he broadcasts from there, live, sitting up on the roof in the old Midway Stadium seats.
I met Stella after 10 by the Asbury Street rain garden and she told me about her day. It was a better day! PHEW!
