Friday Night Lights

Friday morning began with a celebration of life for great aunt Susannah Hall. I got to see family that I have not seen in many years!  It was good to reconnect, but all too briefly.  The service was beautiful and I felt lucky to get a glimpse into her life as I never really knew her as an adult.

It almost seemed like a typical State fair day, as I drove to Mom & Dad's, parked, got some photos as Linda, Margit and Paul were leaving the fair. Today was Governor's Fire prevention day so I told Margit and Linda that when they came back with Paul they had to take him to see the fire trucks! We would miss them this year. Maybe he put on a plastic helmet. I'll have to live vicariously through the next generation. .

Marge, Karmon, Kory, Glenn and KayLyn also arrived and headed off to the fair!

After the service, upon returning to Simpson Street, I captured a few more fair images, as the Lynch's were all out on the lawn trolling for vehicles to park, and Steve and Kory had had enough of the fair and were returning to civilization!

I soon left and spent much of the day getting my ducks in a row; ordering coffee, packing boxes, loading the car with chairs, table, umbrellas, confirming details for the big bench event the next morning!  I did not want to miss an entire fair day, and one of my former Girl Scouts texted me and asked us to stop up and say hello, so I begged Stella to join me and we came back to Mom's around 6pm,   Steve & Kory had had enough and were just returning to civilization.

I was sending a message to Karla to see if Keira was still on the grounds so Stella and I could connect and wish her a happy birthday and as I was typing it, we rounded the corner and almost ran into Karla, Karmon and KayLyn!  They had picked up their last treat for the day, caramel apples in a dish!  Stella wanted one...I still owe her!

We stopped by the Ball Park since I knew people were gathering there around seven.  Tim and Paula make a blog cameo once again!

Hannah "banana" is working long hours at Giggles Campfire Grill, so we stopped to chat and she was commanding the condiment cabin! If you need fish sauce, fried pickles, onions, or peppers you gotta stop up and see Hannah!  She was dying for something sweet to eat ( when is a teenager not?) and so Stella and I ran back to the Kiwanis to grab a chocolate malt for her before the laser light show was supposed to start. She is working the cabin almost every day until 11pm! We will be back to visit!

note the trolley path..
Stella and I got back to the corner of the Fine Art building in time to get her a seat (I stood by a tree so I get pictures) and we had to wait about 20 minutes.  The area completely filled up, and I was surprised they let people fill up the street ( sitting on the street) and then as the trolleys came through, told all the people to get up and move... seriously?  Why not tell them it is not a good place to sit in the first place?  There are attendants just standing there!  Note to you all...don't sit in the street until the last trolley has come through at 9pm!  I took a few pics of the show, it is worth seeing!  There is a laser montage of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon and I am curious to see how people react to that part, now that Armstrong has passed away! Kind of gives me goosebumps!  There were all sorts of montages, cartoon characters, Minnesota favorites, Paul Bunyon, Babe the Blue Ox, fair foods, current songs set to images, colorful spirograph-like pics, Devo, Muppets, Bart Simpson doing "I'm sexy and I know it" and yes..."Red Solo Cup" made the cut.  The end was the walking on the moon and a inspiring patriotic montage.

It lasts a full half hour, so get a seat of you can! Stella agreed it was worth staying for!

She never did get her caramel apples in a dish.  There will be more chances.  We had to head home since the plan was to be out the door by 5:45am the next morning to get the muffins at Cub and the coffee from Starbucks, and meet at Mary's house by 6:30 to get Operation Blue Moon under way!

Day Two Stats:
Walked: 8K steps ( about 4miles)
Food Consumed: Chocolate malt (shared) mediocre pizza from green mill, (they were out of spaghetti sticks)
Free Stuff saw a show, and could have scored free condiments if needed.  We learned napkins at the Campfire Grill are free too!  (thanks Hannah)
